Tsukamaki : Japanese sword handle making workshop
Tsukamaki workshop. We in Edmonton are fortunate to have Forged in Fire season one champion David Goldberg returning to teach sword handle making and wrapping . This is a hands on workshop limited ten students to create your own stingray skin and silk cord wrapped sword handle. You will be taken through the process of creating a wooden tsuka by professional Japanese swordsmith David Goldberg. You will learn to wrap a prepared tsuka that is yours to keep. Panels of same ( stingray skin) will be adhered to the wooden tsuka then wrapped with silk ito ( flat Japanese silk cord)encorporating prepared Buffalo horn Fuchi and kashira . This course will prepare you to wrap your own handles in a traditional manner. It is also extremely useful for Japanese sword martial artists to care and repair the wrap on their own swords. This is a must have course for knifemakers and bladesmiths wishing to take their work to the next level. This is an 18 hour course. 6:00 - 10:00 pm Friday July 15 and 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.
