What is “A heat”
A heat:
For a blacksmith, the term “A heat” is the length of time the metal is at working temperature.
How long it’s stays hot varies by many factors amongst which are the size of the material, the surface it’s on , how much energy is imparted from the hammer blows.
Making a leaf from 1/2” square stock . Start with a point. Move to half faced hammer blows about 1.25 inches. Then flattten controlling the spread with the peen of the hammer.
